Vissinggaard Basketry Museum opened in May 1999 during the Big Willow- & Basketry Day.
The museum is placed in a large stable building with a very special and beatiful
woodconstruction, which provides a dignified frame for the baskets.
The collection consists partly of a unique series of baskets, made by Colin Manthorpe,
that represents all the different baskets used in farming and industry for the last
100 years in England. All the baskets are made in half size. They are beatifully hung
up by Bent Winkler.
Furthermore there is a large collection of baskets made by basketmakers and artists
from Denmark and abroad. The idear is to show traditional as well as untraditional
techniques and forms, in a way that the collection reflects the imagination, ideas and
trends within basketry now. The collection is represented by many recognized
basketmakers and artists, as well as anonymous basketmakers and special baskets
made by amateurs.
Furthermore there is a large selection of African shopping baskets.
The museum is illuminated by a fantastic chandelier created by Malene Alpass
from Copenhagen.
Eva Seidenfaden also has a large collection of exquisite hats from Thailand,
collected by her father Gunnar Seidenfaden, as well as a large collection of baskets
from West Africa.
The museum is used as a studycollection during the courses, and it is furthermore
